Review of LA Smorgasburg

A Super Cool Food Happening in LA – Every Sunday: Free of Charge!

I LOVE a reason to bring friends together around food. This event is the perfect excuse for that. Smorgasburg takes place in an old south of down town LA area made up of warehouses and old factories off Alameda.

New restaurants, clean and safe walk ways, multiple parking structures and a 3rd street promenade, foot traffic encouraged vibe.

The market is open rain or shine. The forecast changes all the time and vendors are encouraged to come every weekend, regardless of forecast. In the event of an all-day, total downpour, don't expect all of the vendors to be set up, as some may opt not to come.

The Bottom line is it’s a place for food trucks and pop up restaurants to all come together and show off or beta test their newest creations. You have a range of food from lobster grilled cheese, to raw scallops on the half shell, Brazilian bbq to matcha cupcakes, charcoal froyo, and truffle kettle corn. This is a food paradise.

Also on a confessional note, I love a place where no one has to feel guilty for wanting to eat more. Because the portions are pretty small you are almost obligated to try six or seven spots just so you’re full/have indulged all of your hedonistic desires.

One final comment on this spot – I find if a fun way to judge people (I know I’m a monster, right?) – if I suggest it and people have heard of it I know they’re “My People” if they have not but are open, sweet and if they’re not that into it – I know this relationship is going nowhere. So if you’re looking for a culinary sensational experience and a social barometer don’t skip Smorgasburg.

A couple of shout outs to specific trucks/Pop ups.
